Body contouring is a procedure done to remove excess sagging skin and fat and improve the shape of the underlying tissues. It is most commonly done after the patient has lost a large amount of weight.
In such situations, the patient’s skin and tissues are often not elastic enough to match the new smaller body. In addition, many people are left with pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Body contouring can help solve both problems.
What is CoolSculpting™?
CoolSculpting™ or cryolipolysis is a non-surgical form of body contouring in which the doctor freezes fat cells. Over the next few weeks after the procedure, the body eliminates the frozen fat cells.
If the patient continues to diet and exercise, the effects of CoolSculpting will be permanent. CoolSculpting™ is used to treat the abdomen and the sides.
A patient may have just one procedure or several. Some patients wait several months before getting another procedure which lets them see the full effects of the first procedure.
Others get a second procedure four to six weeks after the first one which gives them the benefit of cumulative results.
CoolScultping is not a weight loss procedure like gastric bypass surgery. It is for people who are more or less of their ideal weight.
What happens during the procedure?
The doctor uses a device approved by the FDA to freeze fat cells. He places it and a gel pack on the treatment area and chills the patient’s skin for up to an hour at a time. The whole procedure can last one to three hours.
At the start of the CoolSculpting™ treatment, the patient will feel a cold sensation and pressure, but this will fade after a few minutes.
The fat cells eventually die off, and the patient can lose anywhere from 20 to 80 percent of fat over the next three months after treatment. Most patients will start to see results three weeks after the procedure.
What is CoolSmooth?
CoolSmooth is a device used in CoolSculpting™ that was introduced in March, 2014. It is used to treat the outer thighs.
It can also be used on “non-pinchable” fat found in small bulges. A single treatment can freeze 22 to 25 percent of the fat in a given area.
Who is not a good candidate for CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting™ is not a treatment for obesity. It can only help people rid themselves of small amounts of fat. Pregnant women should wait about two months after giving birth before undergoing CoolSculpting™. Contact Delta Laser and Skin Care Centre today to schedule your consultation.
