What is the difference between drug-store anti-aging products and physician grade products? This is a good question and one we are asked often….
As a general rule, over the counter/spa anti-aging creams contain low concentrations of active ingredients. Companies who produce these products are selling millions of creams to people who don’t want to have side effects from their skin care products. Companies will tend to stay on the safe side, adding low quantities of active ingredients, so they are unlikely to cause a reaction but also unlikely to produce good results. For example, Christian Dior once made a facial cream containing Vitamin C – it contained only about 1% Vitamin C — whereas the Vitamin C serums Lougheed Laser Centre offers contain up to 20 % Vitamin C.
Patients who are looking to invest in great skin care and want to benefit from higher concentrations of active ingredients will be encouraged to use physician grade skin care. We always say, we all admit that skin care can only do so much, so we at least want to be using skin care that will actually do something for our skin!!!
