What is runner’s face you might ask?
“Runner’s face” is a recently coined phrase to describe that thin, gaunt look that people over 40 can get after they’ve been running for a while. And sadly, it would seem to be a fact – and it doesn’t just happen to ladies, it can happen to men too. Oh yeah, and apparently it doesn’t just effect joggers, but anyone in any kind of sport or training whose goal is fat loss.
Why do you get runner’s face?
Regardless of our genetics, time and sun exposure break down the collagen in our cells so our skin naturally loses volume. And we all know that it’s impossible to lose fat only where you want to, (that is unless you’re having a CoolSculpting treatment). When this natural volume loss is combined with weight loss you can end up with a prematurely aged look because you’re also losing fat from your face. This can make the skin sag and make wrinkles look more severe than they really are.
Is the anything that can be done to “fix” runner’s face?
Fortunately we don’t have to choose between having a great bum and a youthful face thanks to Botox and Dermal Fillers. Botox is used to smooth dynamic wrinkles like crow’s feet and frown lines, and the Fillers are used to add volume to the lips and cheeks. There’s even a name for the combo treatment – SoftLift. The combination of Botox and Filler subtlety reverses multiple signs of aging, creating a refreshed, more youthful look in just one treatment – and no one will know how you did it.
Another key “fix” is sunscreen. Apply a physical block to make sure you’ve got protection against both the UVA and UVB rays. Applying sunscreen is essential every day because the sun accelerates the destruction of collagen in our skin. Time can be cruel enough so why add insult to injury?
